New Whiskey Labels: More from Diageo and Rebel Yell
This week's most interesting new labels from the federal TTB database:
Diageo cleared a label for a new whiskey in their Orphan Barrel series, Forged Oak, a 15 year old Kentucky bourbon.
Luxco cleared a new Rebel Yell label for a two year old bourbon/rye blend that appears to be a combination of Kentucky bourbon and Indiana rye.
Note: The fact that a label appears on the TTB database does not necessarily mean it will be produced. In addition, some details on the label, such as proof, can change in the final product.

To quote Wikipedia, "Forging is a manufacturing process involved in the shaping of metal using localized compressive forces" What the f*ck, Diageo? First you're proud of your barrel to bottle cycle, now you claim that you can forge wood?
If this trend continues of naming bourbons "Past-Tense Verb+Noun semi-related to whisky ", I imagine next year will bring the Orphan Barrel's exclusive, "Falsified Warehouse" release.
What would this bourbon/rye combination from Rebel Yell comprise? Would it's mashbill be something like 47% corn, 47% rye and 6% malted barley so it simply would be called whiskey?
It's a combination of bourbon whiskey and rye whiskey. You can't call something bourbon if it contains any rye whiskey (as opposed to rye grain in a bourbon mashbill), even if the mashbill would still work out to 51% corn, so it could well be over 51% corn or over 51% rye, but because it blends both bourbon and rye whiskeys it needs a separate designation.
